Meet MeeGo Harmattan -Nokia N9

The smartphone market is crowded (or, 'healthy', you could say); we have iOS and Android in the top spots, and a range of competitors like Windows Phone 7, Symbian, BlackBerry 7, webOS, Bada, etc. iOS, Android, WP7 are on the ascendency, most other things are static or in decline.

What you often find though, is that you can tell the good ones apart by how consistent and pleasant to use they are. Pick up a webOS device, for example, and you instantly see a pretty OS with many great UI concepts. Use it for a little longer, and you start to see how shallow that veneer actually is - user experience nightmares, terrible performance, half-finished designs, etc. The sliding three-pane UI in webOS 3.x is a great example of this; drag the divider and the panes will judder across the screen, the main pane not resizing anything until you let go, at which point it snaps to the new position with no animation or feeling. Compare with the Twitter for iPad UI and how fluid it feels, and you would be appalled. It's such a pity, because webOS is a great concept and implementation - it just doesn't have the final 10% to make it feel like you're using something more than a pretty-looking webpage. I believe it's here to stay, however, unlike Symbian, BlackBerry OS, etc.

iOS is the king, so far, with consistency of user experience. You'd have to make a conscious choice as a developer to create an app that breaks the inherent UX niceties and animation in the OS. I like to call this the 'soul' of the platform. Android, on the flipside, is a hodgepodge of inconsistent UX, where even Google's own apps decide to feature new styles and concepts in between OS releases (the App Marketplace, for example, has been redesigned twice in recent history, with neither style matching the rest of the OS). Windows Phone 7 also has a quality UX, until you reach the third party apps, where everything degenerates (the third-party apps, being Silverlight, have no relation to the native software that comes on the phone, which is all C++ and using the same frameworks).

Recently, Nokia announced the N9, the first (and perhaps last) of their MeeGo smartphones. Where does MeeGo fit?

N9
Long awaited, the expectations were really high for this device - MeeGo was originally supposed to be the savior of Nokia, their modern smartphone OS to replace the aging Symbian. When Nokia announced in February that they were instead going to move to Windows Phone 7 as their primary platform, most took it as a sign that MeeGo was simply never going to be ready, or competitive. The open-source version of MeeGo for handsets is so barebones that it would take another year at the least to build a compelling user experience on top of it, so it was understandable that Nokia would focus their efforts on WP7 instead.

Great Features of the Generation Nokia N9

Nokia is set to confront new challenges in the mobile phone market with its next generation Nokia N9 smartphone. The new handset offers stylishly awesome aesthetic features as well as state of the art functionalities. It is also powered by the new MeeGo operating system which was the product of the partnership between Intel and Nokia.

Basically, the Nokia N9 is designed to take over the reins from the previous N8 handset. To fully understand the new Nokia offer, it is best to differentiate the N9 from the N8.

A Quick Peek on the New N9 Smartphone

When Nokia releases a new model, it usually offers radical features that totally eclipse the previous models. Consumers will see the same thing with the new N9 model. This handset offers exceptional features that you will certainly admire.

First of all, Nokia gave the new model a uniquely sized screen display. It has 3.9 inches screen which comfortably sits between the large HTC models and the averagely sized iPhone units. The N9 is equipped with the AMOLED technology. This kind of display system provides the handset with a screen that can offer natural color depth at 480 x 854 resolutions. Additionally, the technology provides the N9 with a greater viewing angle.

The previous N8 model also utilized the AMOLED technology. However, this unit has a lower screen resolution of 360 x 640 pixels. In other words, the new N9 will give you better viewing pleasure. Both phones are equipped with the Gorilla scratch resistant glass. This type of glass can also resist considerable shock.

Multimedia Features of the Nokia N9

The new N9 handset has a respectable camera feature. It is capable of capturing exceptional still photos and videos at 8 million pixels resolution. Unfortunately, such capability is below the capability of the N8. This previous model has an impressive 12 mega pixels resolution. The camera capability of the N8 is still unmatched even by other high end mobile phone brands.

The good news is that Nokia decided to retain the Carl Zeiss optics technology. This optics technology provides high definition output for your still photos and moving videos. The captured video can be displayed in HD even on large screen formats.

Introducing the MeeGo OS for the Nokia N9

There is no denying the fact that Nokia lost some traction in the smartphone market. Users were exasperated with the Symbian OS which was the standard platform of Nokia. With the introduction of Android and iOS that offered better functionalities, some loyal Nokia fans decided to switch to other providers.

The good news is that the new Nokia N9 will utilize the MeeGo operating system. This OS provides more pleasing visual display and much better functionalities. It is an open source platform that conforms to the modern needs of the latest smartphones.

Overall, the N9 handset offers new and more powerful features compared to its predecessors. Nokia seeks to raise the level of its competitiveness by offering a next generation smartphone with powerful features. Most importantly, the latest model has a new and exciting OS that can match the features of other popular operating systems for mobile devices.

Now you know everything about the new Nokia device ,you can check some of the local mobile operatos for .

Nokia N9 coming to the UK and Won’t Sell Nokia N9 in US! whay?

Nokia N9 Coming to the UK

It’s thought that Nokia is holding back the N9 so as not to dampen the impact of its ‘Sea Ray’ phone, the working title for the first Nokia Windows Phone 7 phone. Appearance-wise the two phones are virtually identical and it’s everyone’s guess that the specs are as well.

Obviously Nokia has a lot riding on the Sea Ray, essentially its big comeback phone. But then again the N9 has gained a lot of interest from customers, despite MeeGo being in the pipeline for a good couple of years.

Nokia N9 Won’t Sell Nokia N9 in US!

For now, it looks as though MeeGo fans in the UK are going to have to order one in from the continent and cough up the pennies for an N9 SIM-free.
I guess the Nokia N9 is one of the most discussed smartphones of the Finnish company now. It’s running MeeGo — a platform everyone thought was going to be something experimental; it came out that MeeGo is a great OS offering awesome experience we haven’t seen earlier. Anyway, it looks like the U.S. market is not ready for other OS currently, which means Android, iOS and BlackBerry OS will dominate there. Most likely, this is the main reason why Nokia decided not to sell the Nokia N9 in the U.S.

From the very beginning of Nokia’s N-series’ handsets U.S. wasn’t welcoming them for some unknown reason. Even when the Nokia N8 was released and Europe with Asia welcomed it eagerly, the U.S. smartphone market ignored this super handset. Мany geeks will say that the N8 wasn’t popular in the U.S. since only its unlocked version was sold and it cost more than carriers’ offers, but anyway…
I understand every country and every mobile operator tries to provide devices that meet the market’s and users’ requirements, but now when Nokia won’t roll out the Nokia N9 in the U.S., I think it will be a loss for the U.S. smartphone users. But probably that’s a part of Nokia’s strategy — to conquer those markets where Android and iOS don’t feel themselves like kings.

MeeGo-based Nokia N9 smartphone Official Countdown Begins With 49 Days Until Launch

If you head for Nokia’s Swedish page, you will know what we mean. Though a launch date in September was already hinted at by carrier networks already, it is only now that the company has come out with a confirmation. We are still looking to know whether

The European carrier, Orange, has confirmed previously that the N9 would launch in Switzerland on September 19, and that lines right up with the countdown. It may then be followed by Sweden, which is reported to receive the handset on September 23. But oddly, other major European markets such as the UK, Germany, and France have yet to get confirmed dates. Pricing has also not been revealed, although it’s said to be quite affordable with an attached service plan.
The N9 features a slick 3.9-inch touchscreen display covered by Gorilla Glass on a pillow-shaped body with an 8-megapixel camera equipped with Carl Zeiss optics. Nokia’s first Windows Phone, codenamed the Sea Ray, is almost identical in form and may make its debut during an August 17 event.
However, both phones are slated to launch in Europe first, with the N9 coming out first in September followed by the Sea Ray, rumored for sometime in November.

Nokia N9 Coming On September 23 To Sweden

Nokia introduced the N9 MeeGo phone on June 21 and it appears that it will be landing in Sweden on September 23, after three months and a couple of days since its official announcement. At least that's what the countdown says...

If you follow the source link you'll land on the Swedish page for the Nokia N9 which is counting down 48 more days and 21 hours. That should mean that the N9 will be hitting Sweden on September 23 (and hopefully other European countries too).

The Nokia N9 is a button-less phone sporting a FWVGA resolution (854 x 480 pixels) screen, Texas Instruments OMAP3630 1GHz CPU aided but a PowerVR SGX530 GPU, 1GB RAM on board as well as either 16GB or 64GB storage for the two main variants. It is also the model Nokia's SeaRay Windows Phone is derived from.

HD video with the Nokia N9 in various lighting conditions stitched in a two-minute clip

The video quality is truly amazing! and i love to watch and watch it again. it’s so clear! Nokia Rules! I hope that they continue Meego OS.

A nice video compilation and some pictures, showcasing the Nokia N9 8MP camera capabilities, have been uploaded by Nokia's Bill Perry, with the pre-production version in hand, and the results are looking good.

Bill only used Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 to sync the music to the clips, but no other corrections of any kind have been applied to the results. He also posted three pictures, which we are embedding below.

The pictures and video below are taken with a prototype version of the Nokia N9, which still has to see the final firmware, but it looks like Nokia was right when it said they tried to cram the Nokia N8 experience in the smaller module

、Let's wait until we find out how much it cost first before we judge this phone. You can get the Galaxy S for Php18,600, LG Black for Php17,990.

The LG black uses the same CPU, GPU, and chipset as the N9.

The Galaxy S also uses the same CPU but with a faster GPU than the N9.

、It will be 600 USD as I have gathered from mynokiablog. Yah, the specs are not as good as LG and Sammy. I'd still take a dive though.

Nokia N9 Announced:Nokia N9 Launching on 15th September on Swiss Orange ?

Its been quite a long time since Ive submitted anything truly worthwhile about this blog. On the other hand, its been quite a long time since theres already been any useful Nokia information. And therefore, after the four-month hiatus, its period again to check out one associated with Nokias most recent phones: the actual oft-rumored N9.

Whenever we last remaining Nokia, the software application development had introduced that it might be going the way in which of the actual Windows Telephone, in that which was probably one of the greatest deals in between two from the largest technology companies available. Nokias 2 last systems  Symbian as well as MeeGo  were likely to be jettisoned, within the hope which moving in order to Windows might give Nokia the flexibleness to innovate each software as well as hardware. Symbian experienced, more or even less, be a dying system, and MeeGo wasnt living as much as its expectations like a savior for that company:
MeeGo Experts report that the long awaited Nokia N9 might be available via Swiss Orange starting September 15th. The website has put up a page for the MeeGo Harmattan device and listed 15th September as date of availability alongside the specifications.
The Nokia N9 comes with a large 3.9″ AMOLED curved glass display. The phone runs a custom build of MeeGo which uses a proprietary 3 panel Swipe-UI. The camera is an 8MP unit and captures 720p video at 30FPS.
Several weeks later, Oistämö nevertheless struggles to attend tears. “MeeGo have been the group hope from the company, ” he or she says, “and wed arrived at the conclusion how the emperor experienced no clothing. Its not really a nice point. ”
However the release from the N9 demonstrates that perhaps, just perhaps, MeeGo isnt totally done with regard to.

Lets begin with the specifications. Nokia isnt tugging any your punches here using the N9 (that honestly appears like an ipod device Nano combined with an N8), a bag of chips that sports activities a 3. 9-inch AMOLED show, 8 megapixel digital camera (showcasing Carl Zeiss optics), HIGH DEFINITION video documenting, Gorilla cup, and NFC assistance. It operates MeeGo 1. two. It additionally looks (given, this is in the promo movie) sleek as heck, with a good interface which looks, with regard to once, slightly in front of the curve.

Gone would be the Home control keys (equipment or software program) associated with yesteryear. Nokias offering the simplicity from the N9 more than everything, for the reason that all it requires is only a simple swipe. Swipe in order to scroll, swipe to maneuver through your house screens, as well as swipe to reduce your programs. And speaking of the house screens, youve obtained three of these here: the application launcher, your multitask look at (like the N900s), last but not least, your notice page that shows skipped calls and social networking updates.

Everything concerning the N9 appears impressive  as well impressive, perhaps. Whats Nokias performing here? Theyve put aside MeeGo with regard to Windows Telephone, but place the limelight back having a hell of the device. I dont quite have it. But I must hand this to Nokia: the very first release prospect of MeeGo (1. 1) looked nothing beats this. Im amazed it got this particular far.

Regrettably, theres no discuss price or even availability (however), other compared to generic “The Nokia N9 is actually scheduled to stay stores later this season, with accessibility and nearby pricing to become announced nearer to the product sales start. ”.

Nokia N9 opened Wishlist: Price 472 Euros

A month ago we were covering the official launch of Nokia N9. Nokia N9 is the first smartphone in the Finnish company’s portfolio to feature the brand new MeeGo operating system, but it seems that will also be the only one coming with this OS.

The news saying that Nokia N9 will be the only smartphone with MeeGo, made Nokia fans want it less, but a Nokia official assured the future customers of the device that the company will provide support for MeeGo, for a long period of time.
Although we expected Nokia N9, the first MeeGo smartphone to hit the market somewhere towards the end of the year, today we found out that N9 appeared in Russia, in the pre-order section of the Nokia official website.
We we first saw the specs of the new Nokia N9 we were not impressed: it comes with a 3.9-inch AMOLED display, 1GB of RAM, and 1GHz chipset, unfortunately not a member of the dual-core family. But once you look closer and see the browsing experience, the gesture control and the fluid user interface, you realize that Nokia N9 has all the requirements of a future sales hit.
Now that Nokia N9 is available for pre-order in Russia, we wonder when the MeeGo-powered device will hit other countries. MeeGo’s Promising ‘Debut’ in Nokia’s New N9

When Nokia unveiled its newest phone on Tuesday, June 21, it wasn't a Windows Phone 7 device. The Nokia N9 uses the MeeGo operating system, which Nokia originally intended to succeed its aging Symbian OS. With Nokia having adopted Windows Phone 7 as its primary platform, MeeGo was relegated to "experimental" status. That might prove to be a viable backup plan, judging from early impressions of the new smartphone.
Nokia's big problem has never been its handset hardware. The N9 continues a tradition of smart industrial design paired with capable components. A 3.9-inch, curved Gorilla Glass display dominates the phone's front face, which is buttonless. A penta-band radio ensures support for voice and mobile broadband data on many global networks, while an NFC chip allows for the possibility of simple device pairing and wireless payments. The camera specifications are typical high-end Nokia: an 8-megapixel sensor with Carl Zeiss optics, dual-LED flash and wide aperture (f/2.2) that allows for excellent low-light use.A PDF with the full specs can be found here.

Software, particularly the user interface, was the big issue for Nokia. Symbian went from market leader to has-been after 2007, when Apple launched the touch-friendly iOS platform, followed by a number of more modern operating systems such as Google Android and Palm's webOS. Nokia attempted to enable touch on Symbian in a number of handsets, but a key difference stood out: While rivals designed and built platforms specifically tailored to touch, Nokia tried to graft touch controls onto an existing user interface. MeeGo, however, is designed for touch. Had it arrived sooner, it might have stemmed Nokia's losses.
MeeGo is finally here, if only in a single handset with no official price or release date. Both phone and OS show promise, at least in first impressions. The device unlocks with a simple double-tap of the display, while a full-screen swipe returns the user to the home area from any running application. The main interface is a trio of screens in a carousel: one for application organization; one for social networking feeds, events, and notifications; and a third that shows small previews of currently running apps you can switch among.

Nokia's N8 Soon Left Me Wanting More

That sounds good, but I'd still like to go hands-on with the device. I initially had high hopes for the Nokia N8, which sported revamped Symbian software. Notwithstanding favorable first impressions, daily use left me wanting more.
Although Nokia has deemed MeeGo an experiment, there's a chance it could become more than that. The situation reminds me of a strategy Samsung employed.Samsung is set to become the top seller of smartphones after adopting Android as its main OS while maintaining Bada, its own little experimental in-house mobile platform.Bada is doing relatively well amid estimates that it will have powered 3.5 million handsets during the first quarter of this year.
Simply put, Samsung has built market share and expertise by selling well-designed Google Android phones while building its own software platform in the background. If MeeGo is as capable as it looks, Nokia could potentially replicate Samsung's strategy by using Microsoft Windows Phone 7 to buy the time MeeGo needs to grow. MeeGo will need more than fancy hardware and smart software. Given our growing addiction to apps, it will need a wide variety of applications in its ecosystem. MeeGo's answer for that is Qt, a cross-platform framework that lets developers run their software easily on a wide range of devices.
Had MeeGo panned out as a swift response to the 2007 iPhone launch, Nokia might well have avoided the doldrums it's in today: a recent 13-year low in stock value and a sinking smartphone market share. Now the company has linked its immediate future to that of Microsoft. Should that coupling end in divorce, MeeGo could be waiting in the wings for a second date with smartphone destiny.
